Forgot to mention how the bathroom flooring was made...
I really like this website for free graph paper online. You can make just regular graph paper if you want to sketch out plans on furniture placement or such. BUT you can also make paper with octagonal or hexagonal shapes; choose line colours; choose size.
I printed my graph on 8 x 10 photo paper, cut it to the size I needed then glued it to matboard. You could also use a stylus to emboss the lines.
